Nine students from West Leesville Elementary School competed in the Region V Social Studies Fair on January 12 in Lake Charles.

Eight out of the nine competing students placed earning teacher and social studies fair coordinator Millie Ballagh the honor of bringing home the Division 1 Directors Award trophy for the school. This award is given to the school with the most winners.

Four of the competing students will be moving on to the state competition to be held in Lake Charles on February 23.

In order to qualify for the state level competition, a student must finish first or second in regionals.

The students who will be competing in states are Tobin Pullin with 1st place in anthology economics, Lincoln Stephens with 2nd place in Louisiana History, Sam Welch with 1st place in political science, and Sydnee Strum with 1st place in sociology.

The other four students who placed at the regional level are Kaylee Midkiff with 4th place in anthology economics, Freddie Stafford with 4th place in history, Avery Bealer with 3rd place in political science and Lanilini Williams with a honorable mention in history.
