The Vernon Community Action Council Inc. (VCAC) is accepting applications for the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program(Liheap). Liheap is funded by a grant by the Administration for Children and Families and is administered by the Louisiana Housing Corporation.

The VCAC is the local provider of services in Vernon Parish. Liheap will assist in meeting the burden of high home heating and cooling expenses by making payments to energy companies on behalf of eligible households. Eligible households with Children five and under, elderly, and the handicapped will be given priority.

To be eligible, the total monthly income for all persons in the household cannot exceed 60 percent of the federal poverty guidelines.

Applications will be accepted Monday through Thursday from 8 a.m. until noon, and 1 p.m. until 3:30 p.m. Fridays are open from 8 a.m until noon by appointment only at the VCAC.  Our office is located at 12286 Lake Charles Hwy in Leesville.

Households will be reviewed for eligibility based on receipt of income for the month of the application or the previous month Applicants should bring in proof of income and include, Food Stamp printout, Veterans Benefits, SSI, Social Security, Annuities, and Retirement. Those applying will also need a copy of the social security cards of each member of the household, picture I.D.’s for the adults, and energy bills for the past 6 months (electric and gas).
