Anacoco resident Ricky Issgit would like to see a veterans memorial park built in his town. On Monday night he took the first steps in making that a reality when he brought his idea before the town council.
"We have a lot right next door to city hall here that's owned by the city," he said. "I'd like to see a veterans memorial park built on it."
Isgitt told the council that Anacoco has a number of veterans who have passed away and the memorial park would be a great way to honor their memories.
"We've got a lot of veterans right here in Anacoco and just the other day we lost one," he told members of the audience. "These graveyards are full of veterans and this park will be a way to honor them."
"I’ve talked to a lot of people about this," Issgit said. "I've talked to the American Legion, the VFW and businesses and they all said they would support us."
Isgitt told the council he is aware of all that will be involved in such a project but was certain that the people of Anacoco would come together to make it happen.
Councilwoman Laverne Miers addressed the matter after Isgitt spoke. “A park honoring every branch of the service is a great idea,” she said.
Miers recommend that the council look into what needs to be done to start the process in making the park a reality.
The Anacoco Council meets again at 7 p.m. on April 9.
