The Louisiana State Police Bureau of Investigations was asked by Sulphur Police Chief Lewis Coates on Wednesday afternoon to investigate a shooting involving one of his officers.
Cody Glenn Light, 35, of Arab, Ala., stole a pickup truck in Vidor, Tx. amd traveled to Vinton, La. where he burglarized a business. He stole a shotgun and then traveled to Sulphur in the pickup truck he stole earlier in Vidor.
Light eventually crashed and abandoned the pickup truck in Sulphur. He proceeded to steal a small passenger car from a residence.
Officers with the Sulphur Police Department observed the stolen car and pursued the vehicle to the community of Carlyss where the suspect crashed.
Light has a lengthy criminal record and is wanted by Alabama authorities for illegal discharge of a weapon, flight with a weapon and attempted murder of a police officer.
The Sulphur Police Department, Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office and Louisiana State Police established a perimeter and began to pursue Light on foot. He gained entry into a residence and stole another weapon from the residence.
From there, Light then departed and continued on foot through the neighborhood.
A Sulphur Police Officer made contact with Light behind a residence, where shots were fired and Light was shot in the neck.
He was transported to Lake Charles Memorial Hospital for treatment.
Light did not have any identification on him at the time. He was not identified until yesterday morning.
Multiple criminal charges are pending against Light from the Sulphur Police Department, Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office and the Louisiana State Police.
No officers were injured during this incident.
