Two women from the Slagle area were arrested on various theft and drug charges.

The arrests of Kristie Higgins, 38, and Christina Morgan Lebouef, 46, are the result of a Vernon Parish Sheriff’s Office (VPSO) investigation into a complaint of employee theft from a local business.

The business owner indicated a large amount of money had been taken by an employee over a period time from October 2017 through this week.

Deputies and agents with the Vernon Parish Narcotics Task Force located Higgins at her residence in the Slagle area.

Lebouef and a child were also at the residence.

Higgins and Lebouef gave deputies permission to search the residence.

Upon further investigation Higgins was arrested and charged with one count of felony theft over $5,000, one count of possession of drug paraphernalia, one count possession of a schedule II narcotic (methamphetamine) with intent to distribute and one count possession of a controlled dangerous substance in the presence of a minor child.

Lebouef was arrested and charged with one count of issuing worthless checks, one count of possession of drug paraphernalia, one count possession of a schedule II narcotic (methamphetamine) with intent to distribute and one count possession of a controlled dangerous substance in the presence of a minor child.

The child was unharmed and taken into the care of a friend of the mother.

Bond has not been set for Higgins or Lebouef and both remain in the VPSO jail.
