LEESVILLE, La. - The fifth annual Cafeteria Conversation and Back to School Resource Fair takes place Aug. 2 from 5-7 p.m. at Parkway Elementary School, located at 3585 University Parkway, Leesville, Louisiana.

"The purpose of the event is to provide families with school age children a one-stop experience to meet leaders from the Vernon Parish School District and schools," said Staci Stipe, Fort Polk Garrison Command executive officer. "We also hope they learn about locally available resources and programs." Cafeteria Conversation features an exhibition set-up with principals and counselors from Vernon Parish schools present to address any questions or concerns.  Attendees will also be able to learn about community resources and agencies, including after school programs, sports, scouting, music, dance, martial arts, health nutrition, college and careers paths, family programs and more.  Operation Homefront will be onsite as well to distribute free school supplies. Online registration for eligible recipients is required. Each participant will receive a time frame for school supply pick-up. Check eligibility and registration requirements at http://events.operationhomefront.org.  The event is held before the start of school as part of the Education Initiative, led by Fort Polk Progress, which aims to improve school performance and educate parents on school curriculum. "We hope parents take advantage of this great opportunity to familiarize themselves with all the Vernon Parish School District and its schools have to offer," said Mike Reese, Fort Polk Progress president. "This will give parents all the information and resources they need to make the decisions they feel are best for their children's education."
