On Monday, July 9, the Vernon Parish Police Jury (VPPJ) voted to approve a cost of living raise for all VPPJ employees during the 4:45 p.m. special call meeting.

The cost of living raise will be a 3.5 percent increase in employees’ wages and will go into effect Monday, July 16.

“It had been about three years since the last raise,” Parish Administrator and Treasurer Rhonda M. Plummer said.

“Since it was the fourth year without one, we figured that now would be the appropriate time for it.”

The increase affects all departments under the Vernon Parish Police Jury, including the Public Works Department, Animal Shelter, Administrative Office, Recycle Center, Building and Grounds Maintenance and Sanitary Landfill.

The motion to approve was made by District 9 Member David Brister and seconded by District 7 Member Charnel Bailey.

The motion was approved with no objections.
