South Beauregard designed its schedule to take on tough opponents early in the season and Leesville will provide exactly that.

This week, the Knights are looking to rebound from a week 1 loss to DeRidder, while the Wampus Cats aim to keep the momentum going from its win over Washington-Marion.

The Wampus Cats found instant offense from running back Jalen Shepherd. The junior scored two rushing touchdowns and one receiving touchdown to go with 231 total yards.

Leesville quarterback Jacob Mount emerged out of the preseason battle and threw for 152 yards on 10-of-18 passing with a pair of touchdowns.

Linebacker Matthew Pajinag picked up where he left off last year, racking up 12 total tackles.

South Beauregard's offense struggled to click in the first week of the season, matched up against a physical DeRidder squad.

Colby Hollier’s ability to run out of the pocket and make plays on designed runs shined in his jamboree game with Westlake and he flashed those abilities again against DeRidder.

Some fumbled snaps and negative runs took a toll on Hollier’s final stats, finishing with 15 yards on 36 carries.

Jaydon Derouen was the leading rusher for the Knights, recording 71 yards on 15 carries.

Last season, the Wampus Cats defeated South Beauregard 6-0 in the first game of the season for both teams.

This week’s game kicks off at 7 p.m. Friday night at Wampus Cat Stadium.
