In a loss last week, Pickering made strides to get to the point the coaching staff thought they would at during the first week.

The Red Devils will try to pick up its first win of the year against Ville Platte, who is coming off a 58-8 loss to Washington-Marion.

The Bulldogs are 1-2 with their one win coming in week 2 against Class 3A Pine Prairie, 28-13.

Running back Evan Fernandez (110) and quarterback Braden Lebato (79) combined for 189 yards last week for a majority of the Pickering offense in its 28-14 loss to Mangham.

Despite the loss, the Red Devils had its first lead of the season, going up 7-0 in the first quarter.

"We got a few more snaps than we have been getting," head coach Eddie Thomas said. "They made that next step to where we thought we were going to be in week 1. We took a step back, but it was a whole lot better this week. We were more focus, but we still have a ways to go."

The Bulldogs gave up six rushing touchdowns last week and over 200 yards on the ground.
