The Beauregard Daily News published an article earlier this month with information concerning Ingevity’s first-ever sustainability report. A reader asked for information regarding the local impact and information of the sustainability report.

Although it is mostly a national report there is data concerning the DeRidder Ingevity plant in the report.

According to the report, Ingevity’s Performance Chemicals plant located in DeRidder manufactures emulsifiers, rosin and tall oil fatty acid-based products that are used in a number of industrial specialties, asphalt and oilfield applications.

The report details how the DeRidder Ingevity plant is unique because it is one of only two Ingevity plants to handle their own wastewater treatment.

The company’s DeRidder, Louisiana, and Wickliffe, Kentucky, facilities own and operate their own wastewater treatment facilities.

The report states “all wastewater is treated in accordance with applicable regulations prior to discharge into the environment.” Wastewater ponds are dredged every five years.

The report also touts the DeRidder Ingevity plant’s work with the community and local schools. According to the report, employees have worked with local science teachers to boost students’ knowledge of the sciences, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) fields for many years. The report also states that the DeRidder plant donated a total of $8,000 in 2017 to local junior and high schools in support of programs that focus on students’ academic success.

Ingevity also noted in the report that workers from the DeRidder plant raised $2100 dollars for United Way by participating in the first ever United Way Incrediball Tournament.

“The report is the culmination of work that began in 2017, when Ingevity launched its sustainability initiative,” said Ingevity PR manager Laura Woodcock. “This initiative is built on a foundation of integrity and ethical behavior, and focuses on four key pillars: Protecting People and the Environment, Creating Value for Customers and Society, Engaging Our People and Driving Business Excellence. Our inaugural report describes our past results, current efforts and future objectives as they relate to these pillars and our sustainability program as a whole.”
