A routine traffic stop led to the discovery of 55 pounds of marijuana.

Agents with the Vernon Parish Narcotics Task Force (VPNTF) arrested Nicholas Oswaldo Garcia, of Grosse Tete.

Oswaldo was stopped by the VPNTF when he was observed speeding on Hwy 117.

During the course of the investigation, VPNTF agents suspected that Garcia was trafficking drugs and continued their investigation accordingly.

The subsequent search of the vehicle led to the discovery of suitcases and bags containing 55 pounds of “high grade” marijuana.

The agents also discovered a firearm in one of the bags. Garcia was charged with one count of Illegal possession of a firearm while in possession of a controlled dangerous substance, one count of possession of marijuana with the intent to distribute and given a speeding citation as well.

If convicted Garcia could face several years in prison at hard labor.

Garcia was booked into the Vernon Parish Jail on a $15000 bond. Garcia has since posted bond and was released.
