A house fire lead to an arrest in Pitkin. The Allen Parish Sheriff’s Office (APSO) arrested Nathan Dean Martin on Oct. 2.

Deputies responded to a fire on Carrol Rd., and when they arrived on the scene the house had already burned to the ground.

The owner of the home was away on a hunting trip at the time of the fire. A family member told deputies that Nathan Dean Martin was sitting in the home-owner’s vehicle and wearing the home owner’s clothes.

The investigation discovered that Martin had stolen numerous items from the home including guns, jewelry, cameras, knives, and other items that were recovered.

Martin told police that he was only stealing the items to get enough money to buy an eight ball of meth.

Martin was booked into the Allen Parish Jail on criminal trespassing, simple arson, illegal possession of stolen things, unauthorized use of a moveable, theft, burglary, theft of a firearm, possession of a firearm while committing a crime of violence and possession of CDS Schedule II (meth).

Martin remains in prison pending a bond hearing. It has not been disclosed at this time how the fire started.
