The season has not the way that it had planned, but Pickering has one more chance to pick up a win this season.

The Red Devils take on Vinton Friday night to avoid making it back-to-back winless seasons.

Vinton (4-5, 1-3) will try to play spoiler and improve its playoff positioning – currently the No. 23 seed.

Pickering is coming off a season-high in points in a 47-28 loss to Oakdale. In the loss, head coach Eddie Thomas says he saw enough stuff he liked on offense that will help them this week.

"We just have to come out and do a lot of the same things we did," he said. "We need to play with emotion from the beginning and play our game from the beginning, now that the kids know what their game is. It took us along to get them to cling to that. I think pinning our ears back and letting it go is the way we have to play. Hopefully, the kids respond from the beginning. If they do, they'll be in it."

Sophomore quarterback DeShawn Jackson threw for 118 yards and a pair of touchdowns against Oakdale in the loss.

The Vinton defense is giving up 21.4 points per game this season, and the offense is averaging 25.2 points through nine games this year.

The Lions have dropped its last two games – 28-10 to DeQuincy and 22-21 against East Beauregard.
