Vernon Parish freshmen, sophomores and juniors will have the opportunity to participate in the "A-HEC of a Summer" program offered through the Central Louisiana Area Health Education Center, Byrd Regional Hospital and the Vernon Parish School Board. The deadline to apply for the program is March 1.
The "A-HEC of a Summer" program gives Vernon Parish students the opportunity to explore health career opportunities through observation and hands-on experience as hospital volunteers. Students will observe and learn about current health issues, patient care, job readiness skills, volunteer service and post-secondary education requirements for health careers. Upon successful completion of the program, students will receive one-half high school elective credit.
Any Vernon Parish student who is currently in the 9th, 10th, or 11th grade, has a cumulative GPA of 2.0 or higher, and is interested in pursuing a health career, is encouraged to apply. Applications and program information are currently available at local high schools in the guidance counselor’s office, or they may be downloaded at www.clahec.org. More information about the program may also be found on the website, or call Gabrielle Juneau at (318) 443-2855.
