Video surveillance helps VPSO nab suspects
When the owner of an area residence was robbed earlier this month, he installed a security camera on his property, which helped the Vernon Parish detectives nab two suspects caught on tape during a second theft.
The victim called the sheriff's office on Aug. 22 after he found an air conditioning unit, automobile radiators and automobile batteries missing from his property, said the sheriff.
Detectives arrested Pagel Arnold, 33, and Jerry Brandon, 33, after reviewing the video tape. The detectives also determined that the items had been taken to two separate recycling centers located out of Vernon Parish.
Both of the Pitkin residents were charged with two counts of theft and two counts of criminal trespass.
Arnold’s bond was set at $7,000 and Brandon’s bond was set at $5,000.

Leesville man arrested for unauthorized use of an access card
A Leesville man has been arrested for using his former employer's business credit card to make personal purchases, said the sheriff.
On Friday, Aug. 27, detectives arrested Waylon Paul Stephens, 32, of Leesville, for unauthorized use of an access card.
The investigation began after Stephens’ former employer reported that unauthorized credit card charges had been made on his business credit card. The transactions occurred between May and July of this year at numerous local businesses.
Stephens was booked into the Vernon Parish Jail with a bond set at $5,000.
