The Army combat brigade stationed at Fort Polk will leave for Afghanistan in October.
A deployment ceremony for the 4th Brigade Combat Team, 10th Mountain Division, is scheduled Sept. 30 at Fort Polk's Honor Field.
Fort Polk spokesman Scott Stearns says it will take about a month for all 3,600 soldiers to leave.
The brigade was created at the end of 2004. While it prepared for its first deployment to Iraq and Afghanistan, several hundred of its soldiers were sent across Louisiana to help with disaster relief after Hurricanes Katrina and Rita.
More than 2,500 soldiers went to the Middle East in 2006, most to Afghanistan but some to Iraq.
A 14-month tour in Iraq ended in January 2009 for 3,600 soldiers.
About 6,400 soldiers in other units will remain at Fort Polk.
