Iraqi citizens' tips lead MND-B, IA Soldiers to weapons caches in Baghdad

 Tips lead Multi-National Division - Baghdad Soldiers and Iraqi Army soldiers to weapons caches throughout Baghdad Oct. 31. 

A tip from a concerned citizen led Soldiers serving with Company D, 1st Battalion, 66th Armor Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 10th Mountain Division, to a cache in the New Baghdad district of Baghdad at approximately 6:15 a.m. The cache consisted of five 60 mm rounds.

While searching abandoned houses, Soldiers serving with Company A, 1st Battalion, 22nd Infantry Regiment, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division, found two 60 mm mortar rounds in the West Rashid district of Baghdad at approximately 3 p.m.  

A tip from a local Iraqi citizen guided IA soldiers serving with 2nd Battalion, 22nd Brigade, 6th Iraqi Army Division, to a cache at approximately 4:30 p.m. in the Kadhamiyah district of Baghdad. The munitions seized included five mortar rounds, four rocket-propelled grenade rounds, two grenades and four RPG propellant rods.  

A tip from a local Iraqi citizen led to the seizure of munitions by IA soldiers serving with 4th Battalion, 22nd Brigade, 6th Iraqi Army Division, in Kadhamiyah at approximately 6 p.m. The munitions, found in a trash pile, included a 30 mm high explosive round, two 120 mm mortar

round and a 10 array three-quarter-inch explosively formed penetrator.  

"Iraqi citizens are stepping to the forefront and providing valuable information about the locations of weapons and munitions," said Lt. Col. Steve Stover, spokesman, 4th Infantry Division and Multi-National Division - Baghdad. "They are helping MND-B and IA Soldiers make are difference every day out on the streets of Baghdad."

 

National Police seize munitions caches in Baghdad

BAGHDAD - Iraqi National Police seized two munitions caches in eastern Baghdad Oct. 31.

The evening of Oct. 31, at approximately 7:30 p.m., policemen from 1st Battalion, 4th Brigade, 1st National Police Division, linked up with Multi-National Division - Baghdad Soldiers from 1st Battalion 66th Armor

Regiment, and informed them they found a cache in the Riassa area of eastern Baghdad. The NP seized four one-pound sticks of high explosives, two hand grenades with four fuses, two flares, a bag containing

approximately 2,000 rounds of small-arms ammunition, an AK-47 drum magazine and a 30-round magazine for 5.56 mm ammunition. 

"Once again, the National Police have proven they are a capable, committed and courageous force for protecting the people of Baghdad day in and day out," said Maj. Joey Sullinger, a spokesperson for 4th

Brigade Combat Team, 10th Mountain Division (Light). 

"Citizens of Iraq can feel safe and secure in knowing the NPs, and all Iraqi Security Forces, are looking out for them, and they can take pride in the professionalism with which they conduct themselves."

 

Citizen's tip leads NP to weapons cache

BAGHDAD - Acting on a citizen tip, National Police officers seized a munitions cache in eastern Baghdad Oct. 28.

Policemen from 1st Battalion, 8th Brigade, 2nd National Police Division, seized the cache in the Shawra Wa Um Jidir area of the New Baghdad district in eastern Baghdad, which consisted of three 81 mm mortar rounds, three 60 mm mortar rounds, four rocket-propelled grenade launchers, five RPG warheads, three RPG fuse assemblies and approximately 400 rounds of 7.62 ammunition and a Dragonov sniper rifle.

"We commend the brave and patriotic Baghdad citizen, who was responsible for taking these weapons out of the hands of criminals, who would use them to attack innocent Iraqi civilians and security forces," said Maj. Joey Sullinger, a spokesperson for 4th Brigade Combat Team, 10th Mountain Division (Light). 

"Cooperation such as this between citizens and professional, dedicated Iraqi Security Forces sends a clear and concise message to criminals that they have no place in the future of Iraq."
