FLORIEN–E. P. Garth, former owner of the Leesville Cafe, just published his first novel, "Off the Air: a Pat Cassidy Novel." Garth, a former sportscaster in Texas and Louisiana, created a character based on his experiences in radio broadcasting. The story takes place in Texas, where Garth has spent most of his life; however, some of the text describes local areas on Toledo Bend Lake where he now resides. The novel is the first of a series involving pulp fiction’s latest crime buster, Pat Cassidy.
When Pat Cassidy stumbles upon 1976 political corruption in Texas, he teams up with his best friend, newsman Brett Tucker. The result is murder and cover-up involving the most powerful politician in the Lone Star State.
The intrigue evolves around the fictional gubernatorial campaign of Texas billionaire Tom Calloway, the Mayor of Fort Worth, and Texas’ favorite son. In cahoots with union boss ‘Big Jake’ Riley, they conspire to steal the election for governor.
In his hometown of Fort Worth, Pat Cassidy builds a radio career after a successful amateur boxing career and a tour of duty in Vietnam. As the story begins, Pat overhears Calloway and Riley discussing their plans and confides in his friend. Brett, the WFTW Radio newshound, uncovers a source that has the goods on both Calloway and Riley. Brett’s evidence triggers a chain reaction across Texas involving murder and deceit.
Garth has already started on the second novel in the Pat Cassidy series, entitled "Out of Touch." Expect to see it published around this time next year.
