Police say that a Leesville man who has been charged for the third time in as many years with obscenity at Wal-Mart has a history of similar behavior in other states.
Shane A. Childers, 30, was arrested Nov. 14 on charges of indecent exposure inside the Leesville store. Childers has been arrested on similar charges twice before, once by the Leesville Police in May, 2008 and once by the DeRidder Police in April, 2007. In all three instances, the local Wal-Mart was the scene of the alleged crimes.
Security personnel at Wal-Mart reported in May of last year that Childers had exposed himself inside the store, said Leesville Chief of Police Bobby Hickman in a released statement concerning Childers' 2008 arrest.
Several employees and customers told officers then that they had observed Childers in various parts of the store from April 29 through May 1, 2008 exposing himself and masturbating.
Childers, who had been detained by Leesville Wal-Mart security, was arrested at the store and charged with five counts of simple criminal damage to property. His bond was set at $14,500.00. He was also barred from the store and later put on probation.
According to Lt. Shane Fruge, in April, 2007, the DeRidder Police Department arrested Childers and charged him with two counts of indecent exposure and one count of simple criminal damage.
Fruge said that Chiders also has a record in other states for similar behavior.
On Saturday, security at the Leesville Wal-Mart again detained Childers, who was later arrested and charged with obscenity, criminal damage to property and criminal trespassing.
Judge Vernon Clark set Childer's bond on Saturday's charges as follows: obscenity $25,000.00; criminal trespass $500; criminal damage to property $1,000. Childers remains in jail on a Probation and Parole hold and pending posting bond.
