Leesville Mayor Robert Rose proclaimed May 11 as Delta Kappa Gamma Day in honor of the organizations's 82nd anniversary. Delta Kappa Gamma Society International is an organization of women educators founded on May 11, 1929, in Austin, Texas, under the direction of Dr. Annie Webb Blanton. The organization promotes professional and personal growth of women educators and excellence in education. The Leesville chapter, Beta Sigma, now with 60 local members, was organized in July 1977.
