A love of shoes fueled a Leesville artist's most recent collection of paintings.

At a showcase at Threads Boutique in Leesville, artist and photographer Natalie Pickett unveiled her collection, "Soleful Experience," a collection of prints focusing on high-heeled shoes.

Pickett, who was born in Minden, said that "her love of shoes" wasn't the only thing that made this collection special.

"They're girly prints, they're fun," she said. "It's something different."

Pickett said that art and photography have been one of her interests for quite some time. She also said that the most of the work was completed while at Nicholl State University in the fall of 2009.

"I started this in the fall of 2009," she said. "So I've done a good bit of work on it. A lot of that work came while I was at school."

Pickett graduated from Nicholl State in May 2010 with a bachelor of fine arts degree and a minor in art history.

She said a number of her projects completed in school have also been featured in art showcases in Louisiana and Texas, including her senior thesis at Nicholl State, "Beauty Series," a collection of models posing in their underwear to showcase the diversity of women.

Pickett said that her next project will center around a group of photographs she took while on a trip to Europe.

The reason she does art, Pickett said, comes out of the finished product.

"It's a fun you can't describe," she said. "It's fun to see what you can come up with."
