Several Vernon Parish teenagers became the first students to take driver's education from a Vernon Parish private driving school when they graduated from the Learning Curve Driving School.
Students who graduated include Kara Daniel, Matthew Hoecker, Hailey Lewing, Cynthina Martinez, Kelsey Parker, Trey Salisburg and Dylan Shackelford.
The course involves 30 hours of classroom instruction and eight hours of behind-the-wheel training, and is designed to teach students driving laws and regulations in an effective and efficient manner.
"We have an outline of subjects that we have to cover that has been provided from the state," Abby Cryer, co-owner, said. "We have taken that outline and developed out curriculum to incorporate what we know about how students learn most efficiently."
Changes in Louisiana legislature removed driver's education from the Department of Education to the jurisdiction of the Office of Motor Vehicles. Under the OMV, driving schools were mandated to meet certain requirements pertaining to the instruction and delivery of those requirements,
