Steve Woods has announced that he is seeking re-election to the Vernon Parish School Board District 1.
“When I announced my candidacy for school board four years ago I promised that I would faithfully pursue the following: I would be a  voice on the Board for every taxpayer and citizen, I believe the public school system belongs to the public school system belongs to the public and they deserve a voice, and I believe that I have faithfully fulfilled that promise,” Woods said.
Woods also promised to be a team player, but at the same time not be afraid to say no.
“I promised to help provide the most modern and secure facilities possible within the budget. I have faithfully supported renovations that will help ensure our students a safe, clean, and modern environment in which to learn,” he continued.
“I also believe that we have the very best classroom teachers, coaches, bus drivers, and other support personnel who work tirelessly to provide for our students. We must find a way to ensure that our salary scale is competitive with other  public systems in our area.”
Woods added that he believes the School Board must keep teachers and all support personnel in the system, as continuity is an important ingredient for learning. “I believe my record shows support for all of our employees, whether it be financially or the environment in which they work,” he said.
According to Woods, he has had the honor of serving on all of the committees of the school board, as well as President of the board. This allowed him to work with all departments and gain a tremendous amount of experience to work for the public.
“My children have all attended school in District 1, and our youngest is now a junior at LHS. I want to help improve what is already one of the best school systems in the state. I have served this community for the past 20 years  as an active member of the Leesville Lions Club, where I served as President. I have also served you as a Banker. I am currently a Senior Vice President with The Vernon Bank and have enjoyed helping many people achieve their financial and business goals,” Woods continued.
“Please help me with your vote and support on Oct. 2, 2010 to make our school system even better,” he added. “We can improve, and together we can make a difference. Thank you and God bless you and your family.”
