Northwestern State University will offer a variety of non-credit classes in February.

A distance learning Notary Exam Prep Course will be held on Saturdays on the Natchitoches campus from 1-5 p.m. beginning March 12.  Class days are March 12, March 19, March 26,  April 2, April 9, April 30, May 7 and May 14.  All classes will meet in Room 122 of Russell Hall. Students will be given a specific review of the subjects tested on the Notary Exam.

A Society for Human Resource Management Certificate Prep Course will be offered through an intensive 8-week program presented in partnership with NSU. The key to PHR/SPHR certification and the SHRM Learning System is relevant to the needs of today's human resource professionals.  The SHRM Learning System teaches the six modules covering the HR Certification Institute body of knowledge tested in PHR/SPHR exams.  The class is designed for individuals seeking HR certification as a professional in human resources. The class includes all course material but does not cover registration for the PHR or the SPHR examinations. To apply for either the Professional in Human Resources (PHR) or the Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR), candidates must have a combination of education and professional HR experience. Classes will be held from 8 a.m.-12:30 p.m. on alternating Saturdays Feb. 5-May 7 in Room 113 of Russell Hall. The Fee is &845, which includes SHRM Learning System Materials. Billy Benefield Jr. will be the instructor.

Students will learn to stretch their dollars by using coupons in the $tart $mart $avings class, to be held from 9-11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 12 in Room 132-B of Dodd Hall. Participants will learn to stockpile, ad match, and stack coupons and will receive copies of coupon policies for area stores. In addition, students will receive lists of places to get coupons, coupon sites and blogs, stores that take coupons and how to use them, categories to help organize coupons and acronyms and abbreviations for coupon lingo, as well as two surprises for participants. The fee for the course is $29. Pam Harding will be the instructor.

A class in basic and intermediate oil and acrylic painting will be held from 6-8 p.m. on Thursdays, Feb. 17-April 7.  The class is limited to eight students.  The class will be loaded with tips, techniques and question and answer sessions.  The fee is $120. Dodie Knight will be the instructor.
