LSMSA hosts North Louisiana History Bowl

The Louisiana School for Math, Science, and the Arts (LSMSA) hosted the inaugural Northern Louisiana History Bowl and Bee recently with eight high schools participating. Those schools include: LSMSA, Airline (Bossier City) , Baton Rouge Magnet, Bolton (Alexandria), Byrd (Shreveport) , Minden, New Orleans Math & Science Charter and St. Mary’s in Natchitoches.
LSMSA’s Jacob Temple, a sophomore, placed 2nd in the individual portion of the competition and advances to the National History Bee in Washington, D.C. on April 29.
“When I was 8-years old, my grandfather gave me a large, illustrated book about the Civil War and it really interested me,” Temple said. “Since then, I have read history books and I think that, plus my love for history, helped me do well in the competition.”
The History Bowl is an interscholastic team competition with a quiz bowl format. The History Bee, held in conjunction with the Bowl, is a competition for individual students. The events are for high school students in grades 9-12.
Those representing LSMSA include: Paul Bedel of Elizabeth, Annalise Labatut of Batchelor, Ashlee White of Crowley, Katherine Prutz of Baton Rouge, Mejoan Whittington of Slidell, Nani Cruz of Fort Polk, Will Smith of Baton Rouge, Imara Vaughn of Campti and Boyang Piao of Calhoun.
Byrd High School won the team event, while Baton Rouge Magnet placed second and Bolton High School placed third.
