Terri Whiddon is seeking re-election to the Board of Aldermen here in the upcoming election set for October 2. Whiddon has been a member of the board since November 2003 when she was appointed to fill a vacant seat. She was elected to her first full term in November 2006.
Whiddon said that she was grateful for the experience in helping the town in some of its recent achievements.
"During my tenure in office, this mayor and board have accomplished the completion of a community walking trail and playground, the rehabilitation of our water system, the purchase of the Plainview water system, improvement to numerous roads and streets and vast improvements to the youth association ballpark," she said. "Additionally, work is underway for the construction of a new town hall and rehabilitation of our waste water system. We have worked diligently to put the needs and concerns of the people first."
Whiddon said that her service on the board has given her insight into the workings of town government. She has received training from the Louisiana Municipal Association in the Lawrason Act, the Louisiana Code of Governmental Ethics, the Louisiana Open Meetings Law and the Louisiana Public Bid Law. She has also been trained in the administration of rural water systems. All of the training, she said, has enabled her to serve her community with a full understanding of the laws and codes that govern Louisiana municipalities.
"It has been a privilege to work with a mayor and council who truly wish to serve the citizens," she added. "I have learned that this board continually strives to improve the town of Hornbeck and the quality of life of its people, and I would like very much to be allowed to continue to serve in the position to which I was elected and to be a voice for the people.
A resident of Hornbeck since 1977, Whiddon is a 1979 graduate of Hornbeck High School and holds a bachelor’s and master’s degree from the University of Louisiana at Monroe. She is presently employed by the Vernon Parish School Board as a family and consumer sciences teacher at Hornbeck High School. She is the wife of Joey Whiddon, originally of Rosepine, and the mother of Keith Whiddon, a student at the Mississippi College School of Law and Annslea Whiddon, a student at Hornbeck High School. She is a member of First Baptist Church Hornbeck where she serves as an assistant Sunday School teacher, Acteens leader and Vacation Bible School snack coordinator.
"I pledge to continue faithful service to the Town of Hornbeck, and I ask for and would deeply appreciate the support and vote of the citizens of Hornbeck,” Whiddon said.
