After a 12-inch water main broke near Sartor Street for the third time in two days Wednesday, the city of Leesville engaged with local contractors to repair the leak after it burst at approximately 3:30 p.m. Wednesday afternoon.
Contractors from MPB Construction, LLC, B&D Trucking and Apeck Construction worked into Thursday morning to repair the break at the request of the city. The break was reported as being repaired by 4:15 a.m. Thursday.
The first break occurred Tuesday morning and was reported as being repaired by Tuesday afternoon. However, public works crews were summoned back to the water main Wednesday morning after a faulty part caused the main to break again. The city reported the break as being fixed early Wednesday afternoon.
City officials believe that the Sartor Street water main has been repaired, but city officials have become concerned over the break.
"The city is at a pivotal point," Leesville Mayor Robert Rose said. The city is at a pivotal point. We are no longer under delusions about our water and sewer problems."
Despite the repair of the break, the city reminds residents that the boil advisory for Leesville and New Llano water customers is still in effect. Louisiana Office of Public Health officials will be testing the water system Friday, according to the city, but officials will need to take the samples to Lake Charles to examine them. The city is "shooting for Saturday at the earliest" for the removal of the boil advisory, according to officials.
Residents who are still without water were expected to regain full service by midday Thursday. Residents who are still experiencing problems should contact city hall at (337) 239-2444, extension 1.
