The Natchitoches-Northwestern Symphony Orchestra announces seven performances for the 2010-11 concert season, including music varying from popular film score selections to Brahms.
The season will open with a Pops concert performance at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 22 and Thursday, Sept. 23 in the Student Union Ballroom on the NSU campus. This year's theme is "Let's Go to the Movies!" NSU's professor of saxophone Dr. Paul Forsyth will perform "Escapades" from "Catch Me If You Can." Several other scorew from favorite films will e presented also, including "West Side Story," "My Fair Lady," "Phantom of the Opera," "Harry Potter," "The Chronicles of Narnia," "Star Trek," a Disney medley and more.

"Enigma Variations" by Sir Edward Elgar will be presented in concert at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 4 in Magale Recital Hall. The work has been heralded as a monumental masterpiece of the late 1800s.
The entire School of Creative and Performing Arts will collaborate to present the annual Christmas Gala Thursday, Dec. 2 and Friday, Dec. 3. The event will be held in the A.A. Fredericks Auditorium with a 7 p.m. performance on Thursday and 7 p.m. and 9 p.m. performances on Friday.
NSU's most talented symphony students will be featured in the annual concerto winner's concert at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, March 3 in Magale Recital Hall. They will perform works to be determined by the annual concerto competition in November.
On Holy Thursday, April 21, a work by Johannes Brahms will be presented at 7:30 p.m. the Magale Recital Hall. This concert will feature A German Requiem, Op. 45, inspired by the death of the Brahms' mother in 1865, with text from the holy scriptures.
Tickets for each performance will be available at the door and season tickets may be obtained by joining the Natchitoches-Northwestern Symphony Society.
