Gilbert O. Dowden was born in Leesville on December 9, 1924, the son of Isadore and Nancy Legg Dowden.  He went to be with the Lord on Saturday, January 23, 2010, in his home with his family at his side at the age of 85. For the full obituary click here.

Stephen Glenn Wellman, 51, passed from this life on January 12, 2009 in LaCamp.
He is survived by his  loving wife of 25 years, Velda Bond Wellman; son, Trevor Wellman and wife Brittany; daughter, Traci Lynne Wellman; parents, Morgan and Martha Wellman; brother, Stanley Wellman and wife Sherry; sister, Iris Beck and husband Shawn, all of LaCamp, with a niece, nephews and numerous friends.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, January 14, 2009 beginning at 6 p.m. until the time of the service on Thursday, January 15, 2009 at the Laurel Hill Baptist Church of LaCamp. 
Funeral Services will be held at Laurel Hill Baptist Church on January 15, 2009 at 2 p.m. Ministers officiating will be the Revs. Shawn Waggoner and Joseph Merchant. Burial will follow in Laurel Hill Cemetery in LaCamp, under the direction of Hixson Funeral Home of Leesville.

Funeral services for James D. Ashfield Jr., 43, of Lake Charles will be Thursday, January 15th at 2 p.m. in the Labby Memorial Funeral Home Chapel in Leesville, with Rev. D.R. Davis officiating. The burial will follow in the Antioch Cemetery in Slagle.
Friends may call Wednesday, January 14 from 4 p.m. until 9 p.m. in the funeral home. Services are under the direction of the Labby Memorial Funeral Home in Leesville.
Mr. Ashfield passed away Saturday, January 10 in his residence in Lake Charles.
James worked for the U.S. Department of Interior Fish & Wildlife Service as a Refuge Officer.  He loved to fish and hunt.  He was an avid firearm collector and loved his guns.  Mr. Ashfield prided himself in being a U.S. Air Force Veteran.
He is preceded in death by his mom Karolyne Ashfield.
He is survived by his son, Cameron Ashfield of Big Lake; daughters Anne Ashfield of Leesville and Taylor Ashfield of Lake Charles; father James D. Ashfield Sr. of Anacoco; sister Kathy (husband, Mike) Wilber of Anacoco; one niece; five nephews; and one great niece.

Daniel Glynn McRae, Jr, of Irving, Texas, passed away in a Dallas, Texas hospital, Monday, January 12, 2009, from complications of juvenile diabetes. He was born into the union of Lena Bennett and Daniel Glynn McRae, Sr., January 2, 1954.
He was preceded in death by his father and also by his step-father, John G. Wheelock, III. Survivors include brother, Richard McRae and wife Casceil of Fort Worth, Texas; step-sister, Susan Wheelock and husband Bob of Lawrenceville, Ga.; step-brother, John G. Wheelock, IV and wife Yun Hui of Enterprise, Ala.; two nieces, Randi and Casey McRae of Fort Worth, Texas; step nieces, Sharon Wheelock and Carolyn Sedgwick, and husband Bill, of Fort Lewis, Wash.; and one great niece, Olivia Sedgwick of Fort Lewis, Wash.
Visitation will be held at Hixson Funeral Home Chapel of Leesville, on Saturday, January 17, 2009 beginning at noon until the time of his memorial service at 2 p.m. The minister officiating the service will be Dr.  P. Lionel Crowell, of West Monroe. Immediately following the service, there will be continuing fellowship at First Baptist Church of Leesville.

Louis “Gil” Gallegos, 67, died Sunday, January 11, 2009 at Central Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson, Miss.  Lakewood Funeral Home is handling the services.

Funeral services for Roger D. McLaren, 64, of Anacoco will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 13, 2009 in the Labby Memorial Funeral Home Chapel in Leesville with Rev. Wallace Palmer officiating.
Burial will follow in the Cooper Cemetery under the direction of Labby Memorial Funeral Home of Leesville.
Mr. McLaren passed away Saturday, Jan. 10, 2009 in the Doctors Hospital in Leesville.
He was retired after 34 years with the Coca Cola Bottling Company as a Machine Texhnician. He attended the Good Hope Baptist Church in Anacoco. He enjoyed woodworking, buy his favorite hobby was spending time with his grandchildren whom he loved dearly.
Mr. McLaren was proceded in death by two sons, Rober Dale McLaren Jr., and Robert David McLaren and one brother, Kenneth McLaren.
He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Hattie McLaren of Anacoco; one daughter and son-in-law, Donna and Joey Harvey of Knight Community; one brother, James B. McLaren of Benton, Ark.,; one sister Dorothy Evans of Pickering; three very special brothers-in-law, Jimmy Walker Jr., of Pickering, Richard Walker of Anacoco and Kenneth Walker of Anacoco; three grandchildren, Elizabeth “Scooter” Harvey, Madison “Pooter” Harvey and Dawson “Little Man” Harvey and a host of special nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held today from 2-9 p.m., 8 a.m. until 9 p.m. Monday, Jan. 12 and from 8 a.m. until the time of the service in the Funeral Home.

Mrs. Margulin passed away on Thursday, January 8, 2009 at her residence in Leesville, Louisiana.
Mrs. Margulin is survived by: son, Lee Margulin of Las Vegas, NV; daughter, Victoria Margulin of Pearland, TX; brothers, Song-Duk Yi, Song-Tae Yi and Song-Kwang Yi; grandson Samuel Werner of Pearland, TX.

Constance Miller, 83, passed from this life and went home on January 5, 2009 in DeRidder.
She is survived by her brother, Bobby Egan and wife Frances of Evans; sisters, Judith Cryer of Evans, Dorothy Littleton of Houston, Texas and Beverly Arnold and husband Clarence of Mena, Ark.; and sister- in-law, Pearl Loftin of Phoenix, Ariz.
