The honors continue to roll in for Rosepine junior Christina Hamilton. Just one week after being selected as the Vernon Parish Most Valuable Player, the LSU commitment adds the Class 2A Outstanding Player honor to already impressive trophy case. Hamilton went 33-3 on the season in the circle, striking out 452 of the 880 batters she faced, giving up only 39 strikeouts. Offensively, she was just as solid a threat with a .510 batting average with 12 home runs, 42 RBIs and 44 runs scored. She helped lead Rosepine to the Class 2A state title game, where the Lady Eagles fell in 14 innings to Evangel. But Hamilton wasn't alone on the all-state softball team as three of her teammates were also honored. Senior centerfielder Hannah Welborn was a first-team all-state selection thanks to her .375 batting average and 19 RBIs. She had a perfect fielding percentage on the year, making no errors throwing as well. Senior catcher Stephanie West and senior outfielder Roslyn Davis made the team at honorable mention. West batted .327 on the season with two homers and 29 RBIs, while Davis batted .352 with 17 runs scored and 17 RBIs. Rosepine's opponent in the state finals — Evangel — landed four players on the first team with junior pitcher Emily Rousseau, senior catcher Alex Kirkikis, freshman infielder Jenna Kreamer and senior outfielder Bailey Boggs. Rousseau was 28-2-1 on the season and recorded 21 strikeouts in her state finals duel with Hamilton, who had 17 strikeouts. Kirkikis was responsible for a .378 batting average, while Kreamer had six homers and a batting average of .431 at third base for Evangel. Boggs, who batted .375 for Evangel, joined Welborn in the all-state outfield, along with Heidi Garcich of Riverside Academy, who batted .474 on the year. Joining Hamilton and Rousseau on the all-state pitching staff are Pine Prairie sophomore Courtney Townsend and senior Laura Riccardone of Pope John Paul II. Kreamer is joined in the all-state infield by Menard junior Maggie Vilar, Pope John Paul II senior Megan Collins and Episcopal senior Taylor Mims. South Beauregard's Courtney Hebert and DeQuincy's Katelyn Foster top the utility players on the all-state team. Hebert went 15-2 in the circle for the Lady K's, while Foster, an all-state catcher a year ago, made the squad thanks to her work in the circle for the Lady Tigers. Doyle's Ashton Bennett, Pine Prairie's Ashley Marcantel and Sacred Heart of Ville Platte's Kelsey Jagneaux round out the team. Evangel boss Sherilyn Mueller won Coach of the Year honors after leading the Lady Eagles to the state championship. The Lady Eagles' male counterparts were state champions as well, landing three players on the Class 2A all-state baseball team, including Outstanding Player Bronson Gillam. The junior pitcher was 13-1 on the season for the Eagles with 114 strikeouts. At the plate, he was just as lethal with a .354 average and six homers. He is joined on the all-state squad by teammates Brandon Spencer and Connor Castellano. Spencer, the all-state catcher, batted .444 with five homers and 25 RBIs, while utility man Castellano batted .473 with 42 regular-season RBIs. He also homered in three of Evangel's five playoff games. Joining Gillam on the pitching staff were Sterlington's Chad Reeves, University's Michael LaSalle and St. Thomas Aquinas senior Cody Durham. The all-state infield is made up of Sterlington first baseman Stephen Gandy, St. Thomas Aquinas second baseman Ryan Downing, John Curtis third baseman Matt Stansbury and St. Thomas Aquinas shortstop Gabe Woods. Gandy was a major catalyst in Sterlington's run to the Class 2A finals. He batted .544 on the year with 11 home runs and 61 RBIs. The all-senior outfield consists of Kinder's Kirby Buck, University's Mike Sands and Sterlington's Cole Bagbey. The utility members of the all-state team along with Castellano are DeQuincy's Kade Overton, Oakdale's Casey Tate, University junior Austin Southall and Episcopal senior Kramer Peak. Sterlington's Randy Carr was named the Coach of the Year. Rosepine junior outfielder John Mark Holliday was an honorable mention selection to the team.
