Lady Red Devils cruise in 4-2A opener

Junior Katherine Brinkley put together a career-best scoring effort on Tuesday, leading the Pickering Lady Red Devils to a 67-21 victory over the DeQuincy Lady Tigers in the District 4-2A opener for both teams. Pickering (12-4, 1-0) had little trouble with the Lady Tigers, which dropped to 1-10 overall, 0-1 in the league. The Lady Red Devils jumped out to a 24-3 lead at the end of the first quarter and used a 17-6 run in the second period of play to go into the intermission with a convincing 41-9 advantage. Pickering slowed down the scoring pace in the second half, yet still outscored the Lady Tigers convincingly over the final 16 minutes to run away with the easy league win. Brinkley poured in 31 points to lead Pickering, while Aaliyah Sheppard added 10 points in the win. Senior point guard Nastasha Webber was in double figures as well, dishing out 12 assists. Ashleigh Shoemake led DeQuincy with eight points. Pickering returns to district play on Dec. 29 with a home matchup against league-favorite South Beauregard. Converse......67 Evans......46 EVANS — The Converse Lady Wildcats raced out to a big lead early on before coasting to a 67-46 victory over the homestanding Evans Lady Eagles on Tuesday in a non-district matchup. Converse (14-11) jumped out to a 21-3 lead over Evans (3-18) after the first eight minutes on the court and maintained that advantage until the halftime intermission, where the Lady Wildcats took a 34-15 edge into the locker room. The Lady Wildcats scored 24 points in the third quarter to move out to a 58-28 lead heading into the final eight minutes of regulation. Evans doubled up on the Lady Wildcats in the fourth, 18-9, but it wasn't enough as Converse got the win. Analeigh Simmons paced Converse with 27 points, while Kristyn Craig added 13 points in the victory. Kim Harvey had 15 points to lead the Lady Eagles, while Kimbo Bonner and Kimberly Brittain added eight points each. The Lady Eagles play at Merryville on Dec. 29. East Beauregard....58 Anacoco....38 DRY CREEK — The East Beauregard Lady Trojans had three players score in double figures in a District 4-2A opening win over the Anacoco Lady Indians on Tuesday night, 58-38. With the victory, East Beauregard improved to 11-3 overall, 1-0 in district, while Anacoco is 5-9 on the season, 0-1 in league action. The Lady Trojans jumped out to a 15-7 lead at the end of the first period and used a 13-7 edge in the second quarter to take a 28-14 advantage into the locker room at the break. A 17-9 edge in the third pushed East Beauregard's lead to 45-23 by the end of the frame. Anacoco did outscore the Lady Trojans in the fourth, but not by enough to rally for the win. Carlee Reeves paced East Beauregard with 18 points, while Megan Fox and Carli Graham added 17 and 14 points, respectively. Amber Sharp and Kristen Morrison finished with nine points each for Anacoco. The Lady Trojans return to district action on Dec. 29 on the road at Rosepine, while Anacoco is out of district, visiting Class B powerhouse Hathaway.
