Pearl River, La. —
By finishing in second place in the district, the Leesville Wampus Cats (6-8-2) automatically qualified for the playoffs.
After Thursday’s seeding by the coaches, the Wampus Cats found out just who they were playing in the first round of the Division II boys’ soccer playoffs.
The 20th-seeded Cats will take to the road on Saturday for a matchup against the Pearl River Rebels, who were ranked 13th.
According to rules established by the Louisiana High School Athletic Association, the Cats and Rebels must play the game by Saturday.
However, a site has yet to be determined. As of now, the Cats and Rebels will be at Pearl River High School at 2 p.m., with the officials assigned to the match will determine whether or not the field is playable.
If ruled playable, the game will immediately start. However, if deemed unplayable, the two teams will travel to Mandeville for a 3 p.m. contest on a turf field.
The winner of the matchup will travel to play against No. 4 Alexandria early next week.
In other local action, the DeRidder Dragons drew the No. 9 seed and will play against No. 24 Tioga on Saturday.
The winner of the DeRidder-Tioga matchup will have to go on the road as well in the second round.
St. Louis of Lake Charles drew the top seed.
