Eagles, Pickering land players on District 4-2A squad

Leesville, La. - Although both the Rosepine Eagles and the Pickering Red Devils missed the Class 2A playoffs, the coaches of District 4-2A honored a number of their players.
The Rosepine trio of John Mark Holliday, Klint White and Brandon Russell, along with Pickering senior Chasen Bush, were named first-team all-district recently.
Holliday was a first-team all-district pick in the outfield, where he batted .364 with nine RBIs, while White and Russell were both utility choices on the squad.
White batted .435 and scored nine runs, while Russell batted .500 with 10 runs scored. Russell also pitched for the Eagles.
Bush, in his final season with the Red Devils, owned a .540 batting average, along with a .643 on-base percentage.
District champion DeQuincy dominated the team with five selections, including Dillan Rainwater and Kade Overton, the co-MVPs of the league.
Overton went 4-0 with two saves and a 2.34 earned run average in league play, making the team at pitcher.
Rainwater, a shortstop, batted .517 with 14 RBIs for the Tigers.
Third baseman Josh Neal, outfielder Jonathan Ashworth and utility player C.J. Carter were also chosen to the team.
Neal hit .361 with two homers and 22 RBIs, while Ashworth accounted for 11 RBIs and a .320 batting average.
Carter, the sophomore speedster for the Tigers, batted .294, scoring 17 runs and stealing 12 bases this year.
Runner-up Oakdale had four players named first-team all-district, including pitchers Casey Tate and Adrian Touchet, along with first baseman Clayton Monk and second baseman Zach Adams.
Tate, a two-time all-state selection, went 3-2 in district play with a 2.20 ERA, while Touchet was 3-0 for the Warriors with a 1.80 ERA.
Monk batted .409 for the Warriors with two homers, while Adams drove in eight runs with a .366 average.
The remaining members of the first team are East Beauregard pitcher Johnny Hunt, East Beauregard catcher Chris Schlag, South Beauregard outfielder Steven Vige’ and East Beauregard utility player Tony DeTommaso.
Rosepine had a trio of players named second-team all-district, including senior pitcher Chase Blankenbaker, junior outfielder Justin Simmons and junior designated hitter Rustin Woodard.
Rosepine also had a pair of players to be named to the honorable mention list in sophomores Grant Keel and Randall Aycock.
As for Pickering, the Red Devils landed one player on the second team in junior third baseman Chris Young, who accounted for a .289 batting average and a .419 on-base percentage.
Rounding it out for Pickering on the all-district squad were honorable mention team members Joey Smith, Mitch Dowden and Gett Thomas.
