Leesville, La. —
Although she came up just short of making the Class 4A all-state team as voted on by the Louisiana Sports Writers Association, Leesville senior catcher Brittany Funderburk made her way onto the Louisiana Softball Coaches Association squad.
Funderburk, who batted .346 with eight homers on the season for the Lady Cats, was one of three catchers named first-team all-state recently by the LSCA.
Funderburk, who was an academic all-state selection, along with being first-team all-district and all-Vernon Parish, joined with Live Oak's Lakin Lockhart and Morgan City's Brooke Landry as first-team catchers on the LSCA squad.
Alexandria, Leesville's main rival in District 3-4A, landed two players on the team in outfielder Shelby Derbonne and infielder Katie McCain.
Derbonne was joined in the outfield by Live Oak's Brooke Ort, Vandebilt Catholic's Chelsea Allen and Sam Houston's Karli Wainwright.
McCain was one of nine infielders named to the squad, which included the West Ouachita duo of Meggie Burkett and Nichole Gross, the Sam Houston pairing of Pam Wainwright and Alex Corbello, Haughton's Stephanie Jaeger, Neville's Ashton Burch, Vandebilt Catholic's Alaina Guidry and Live Oak's Natalie Fernandez.
West Ouachita's Samantha Hamby was one of four pitchers named to the squad, including Brianna Granger of Sam Houston, Caitlin Taylor of Neville and Live Oak's Brittany Gonzales.
Morgan LaBorde of West Ouachita made the team as the designated player, while West Ouachita boss Lori Bruscato was the Coach of the Year.
