Anacoco, La. —
After suffering through knee problems as a junior, Anacoco's Jordan Moss rebounded with a vengeance her senior season, leading the Lady Indians to the second round of the playoffs.
Having averaged 16 points and 10 rebounds per game as a senior, Moss garnered the attention of a couple of colleges, including William Carey of Mississippi.
But when all was said and done, it took a trip to the breadbasket of America for Moss to find the school for her.
Moss recently signed with Pratt Community College, a two-year university located in Pratt, Kansas.
"We are really excited for her," father Steven Moss said. "We just can't wait to see her play at the next level."
Moss, who was a first-team all-district pick by the coaches of 5-B, led Anacoco to a second-place finish in the league behind eventual state quarterfinalist, Hornbeck.
Moss was at her best during the playoffs as she helped Anacoco beat Kilbourne on the road before falling to state semifinalist Hathaway at home in the second round.
"Coming into the season, I didn't know too much about Jordan, except she had hurt her knee last year," Anacoco head coach Robbie Bainer said. "But she really worked hard and did a great job leading our team. She led by example with that hard work and when we were able to get her the ball in the post, I was confident she would score."
In addition to her first-team all-district selection, Moss was chosen first-team all-Vernon Parish as a senior, along with being named second-team all-state in Class B by the Louisiana Sports Writers Association.
The beginning of her recruitment saw William Carey as a leader to get her services. But in the end, Moss fell in love with all aspects of Pratt Community College.
"I just loved the coach right off," Moss said. "She said that she believes in the post game and that we will always work with the ball in our hands. We won't run just to run. We will do all of our work with the ball."
Moss said the campus was also outstanding, noting that the school is among the best in Kansas in nursing, which happens to be her major.
"The nursing program really was a selling point to me," she said. "The campus is great and the facilities are outstanding. The dorms are like apartments and the gym is unbelievable."
Moss wants to be able to immediately contribute to the success of the team, but knows this opportunity to play at the next level wouldn't have been possible without her coaches and teammates.
"My teammates at Anacoco always pushed me to be better than I thought I could ever be," she said. "Plus, I learned so much from coach Bainer, coach [Michele] Goins and coach [Kevin] Jeane. They taught me so much and they are just great."
Moss is the daughter of Steven and Jeannette Moss. She has a younger brother Matt, who will be a junior at Anacoco High School next year.
