Leesville, La. - Just over two years ago, Terence Williams arrived in Leesville, ready to implement his innovative spread offense into the Wampus Cat football program. Two years and two District 3-4A titles later, Williams has stepped down as the head football coach at Leesville High School, opting to move to Donaldsonville High School. "It was something I felt I needed to do for my family," said Williams, who will be the head football coach and athletic director at the Ascension Parish school. Williams was one of three applicants interview by the Ascension Parish School Board Personnel Committee last week, with the other two being East St. John assistant coach Benny Guilbeaux and St. Amant assistant coach Dwayne Thomasee. On Tuesday, Williams was officially hired by the board, replacing Gary Adkins, who resigned in April. Adkins was 9-1 last year with Donaldsonville, as the Tigers advanced to the second round of the playoffs. Donaldsonville upended Westminster in the first round, but was upset by Loyola Prep of Shreveport in the second round. In Williams' two years at Leesville High School, he produced a record of 16-7 overall, including 10-2 in 2008. After losing its first game of the season to West Monroe, Leesville won 10 straight games, including a perfect 4-0 mark in District 3-4A, winning the district title. The Cats were winners in the first round of the playoffs against St. Michael, 28-7, but traveled to Zachary the following week, falling to the Broncos in a hard-fought battle, 21-19. In 2007, the Cats battled through numerous injuries, sporting a 6-4 regular-season record, which included a 4-0 run through the district season. Leesville fell in the first round of the playoffs to Vandebilt Catholic, 35-6, in Houma. In his two years at Leesville, Williams had a total of four players sign with Division I collegiate programs, including three this past season. After Williams' first year at Leesville, record-setting wide receiver Allen Muse inked with Arkansas State. The completion of Williams' second season saw three players sign with major colleges, with standout running back Michael Ford going to LSU, quarterback Travante Stallworth heading to Auburn and defensive back Cassetti Brown taking his talents to Louisiana Tech. According to Williams, he looks at his tenure in Leesville as something special. "I really enjoyed my time in Leesville," he said. "I will really miss the kids." Leesville High School will be accepting applications for the post through June 17, according to www.kenramsey.com, with interviews to begin the following day.
