Services for James Edward Fields will be at 2 p.m. Friday, November 28, 2008 in Mora Baptist Church, Mora with Revs. Jonathon Pyle and Joe Sharp officiating. 

Interment will be in Mora Baptist Church Cemetery, Mora under the direction of John Kramer & Son.

James Edward Fields, 83, of Leesville passed away Wednesday, November 26, 2008 in Hilltop Nursing Center, Pineville.

He was preceded in death by three wives, Cynthia Walters Fields; Corrine Suggs Fields and Mittie Starkey Fields and his parents, James and Ollie Fields.


Mr. Fields served in the United States Army in the 82nd Airborne 505th Parachute Regiment during World War II.  He jumped into Holland in September of 1944 and participated in the Battle of the Bulge in the winter of 1944. Mr. Fields was awarded four campaign medals including the Medal of Normandy, Rhineland, Central Europe and Ardennes.  He received the Purple Heart, Bronze Star with a V for Valor, Combat Infantry Badge, four stars for four major battles and one arrowhead for an air invasion.  Additionally, he received the Good Conduct Medal.


He is survived by his wife of three years, Patsy Hyatt Fields of Leesville; one daughter, Sandra Fields Bottrell and her husband, Richard of Alexandria; one grandson, Jason Bottrell and his wife, Emily of Shreveport; two great-granddaughters, Rachael and Kaitlyn Bottrell of Shreveport; five step-children, Shelia Mahaffey of DeQuincy; Sharon Ortego of Sugartown; Roger Mahaffey of Sugartown; Shannon Baggett of DeRidder and Wayne Mahaffey of Sugartown; fifteen step-grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

 Friends are asked to call from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. Thursday at John Kramer and Son, Alexandria and from 10 a.m. Friday until time of service at Mora Baptist Church.
