Gallery One EIIIeven in Leesville will be dedicating the gallery to an exhibit of student work in March in observance of Youth Art Month, an annual event that emphasizes the value of art education for all children and to encourage support for quality school art programs.
The student exhibition will feature the works of Vernon Middle, Leesville Junior High, Leesville High and Pickering High School art students and student work from the Louisiana School for Math, Science and the Arts in Natchitoches. The exhibition will be on display at Gallery One EIIIeven on Third street in the Main Street District of Leesville from March 5-27, 2011.
"Art education has a lasting impact on students, including the development of self esteem and self expression, as well as an appreciation for the work of others," a gallery spokesperson said. "It also develops critical thinking skills that will be important as children continue their education and as they enter the working world. As funding for art education in the schools diminishes, it is important that the community and the corporate and business world pick up the slack in encouraging and financing art education for our youth. Education in the arts is an asset to every child and the skills developed through art education will be used in any career path that they may choose."
The public is invited and encouraged to come and celebrate the achievement of these young art students at the opening reception March 19, 2011 from 5-8 p.m. during the 2011 Spring ArtWalk in the Main Street District of Leesville. The reception will be sponsored by Fox’s Pizza of Leesville.
Many thanks go to the parents for their support, Gallery One EIIIeven artists and volunteers, and the Vernon Arts Council, as well as the following art teachers for their dedication to their art programs: Samuel Bursh of Vernon Middle School, Jeff Edwards of Leesville High School, Chris King of the Louisiana School for Math, Science and the Arts, Isabelle Bursh of Leesville Junior High and Ramona Lambert of Pickering High School. Gallery hours are Wednesday-Friday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. and on Saturday from 11 a.m. to 3 pm. The Gallery is also set to be open this Saturday during the Greater Vernon Chamber of Commerce Mardi Gras parade.
