Alexander J. Thurston, a fifth grade student at Vernon Middle School in Leesville, was recently nominated to participate in the Junior National Young Leaders Conference (JrNYLC) in Washington, D.C. this summer. The conference is a leadership development program that invites middle school students – based on scholastic merit, community involvement and leadership contributions – to interact with today’s leaders.  Conference scholars work through current issues in a series of simulations. Students also meet face-to-face with members of the U.S. Congress or their staff as well as other influential personalities.
