Deborah "Debbie" Blackman has been named the 2010 Support Person of the Year by the Louisiana Veterinary Medical Association.
The award is given annually to a non-veterinarian who contributes to veterinary medicine in the state. Local veterinarian Doug Brandon nominated Blackman.
"(Debbie) has a reputation in the community of caring for animals," said Brandon, who added that Blackman has represented his clinic and the veterinary profession by judging pet shows, hosting school children at the clinic and speaking to community organizations.
In the 26 years of her employment at the clinic, she's developed the skills and knowledge that not only enable her to perform all tasks in the practice with proficiency but also to train new employees.
Blackman, a senior veterinary assistant, is a graduate of Leesville High School and has also completed numerous Veterinary Vendor Training Courses, said Brandon.
