Editor's Note: The following is the fifth in a series of articles concerning propositions that will be on ballots throughout the parish on April 30. The Leader had mistakenly printed in an earlier article that only one proposition would affect voters parish-wide. Of the 13 propositions, five will be put before the entire parish, while two will concern Town of Rosepine voters; two will concern voters in Road District 3; two will concern voters in Road District 4; and two will concern voters in Road District 1. The Leader apologizes for the error.

Voters throughout Vernon Parish will decide April 30 whether to continue a 10-year 2.26 mils property tax.
The millage represents a .26 mills increase over the 2 mills tax authorized to be levied through the year 2011, which voters approved July 20, 2002.
An estimated $262,412 is expected to be collected from the tax annually for a period of 10 years, beginning in 2012 and ending in 2021.
The funds generated by the tax are used to improve, maintain and operate the Vernon Parish Courthouse and jail as well as the Judicial Building and Parish Government Building. The tax is in addition to any other taxes currently authorized to be levied by the parish for such purposes.
