A single-vehicle crash in Vernon Parish killed a man from Spring, Texas, on Thursday, according to a release from the Louisiana State Police.
Kenneth H. Carruth, 57, was driving a  2013 Mazda SUV westbound on La. 8 around 12:50 p.m. when he lost control and exited the right side of the roadway, police said. After exiting the roadway, the vehicle collided with a sign and two trees.
Investigating troopers reported that he was not wearing his seat belt at the time of the crash, the release states. Carruth was pronounced dead.
Routine toxicology tests are pending.  The crash remains under investigation.
Troop E has investigated 21 fatal crashes in 2014, resulting in 24 fatalities.
