The Leesville City Council approved a number of resolutions during their regularly scheduled meeting on Monday afternoon, including one authorizing Mayor Rick Allen to enter into a lease agreement with the Vernon Parish School Board for the use of some space at the city's industrial park, which is located north of the city limits on U.S. 171.

According to Resolution No. 75, the council unanimously voted to “authorize the Mayor of the City of Leesville to enter into a lease agreement with the Vernon Parish School Board for the use of Industrial Park Building C.

The school board is planning to use that particular space to house a number of the school system’s buses.

The council and mayor witnessed the opening of bids in regards to the North Runway Safety Area improvement project at the Leesville Municipal Airport. The project is funded by both state and federal means and involves the cutting down of a hill, which would open the airport up, enhancing the line of sight, in addition to reducing other obstacles.

A total of three bids were opened, ranging in costs from $676,374 to just over $1 million. None of the three bids came in under the estimated costs of the project and were tabled by the council.

Three new ordinances, following a time of public hearing, were unanimously approved by council members, two of which dealing with zoning issues.

Ordinance No. 19 rezoned a property at 801 West Union Street from an A-8 High Density Urban District to an A-6 MS Single Family Urban District, while Ordinance No. 20 rezoned a property located at Lot 13 and 14, BLK 2, C.N. Gibbs Addition, Havana Street, from an A-8 High Density Urban District to an A-6 MS Single Family Urban District.

Ordinance No. 21 assigned the area annexed by Ordinance No. 16 of 2013 to Council District 1 for voting purposes.

Two new ordinances were also introduced during the proceedings. Ordinance No. 24 involves the rezoning of an area near Wal-Mart for the purpose of constructing a gas station, while Ordinance No. 25 involved the updating of the City Vehicle Policy.
