NATCHITOCHES — The Pickering Red Devils overcame a five-point halftime deficit to claim a 60-51 win over the Pineville Rebels at the annual City of Lights Tournament in Natchitoches on Monday.

Pickering (1-0) found itself trailing by four points at the end of the first period, 10-6. Pineville (0-1) managed to add a point to its advantage by the end of the first half, using a 16-15 edge in the second quarter to go into the intermission with a 26-21 cushion.

The Red Devils battled back in the third quarter, putting together a 17-10 scoring advantage to take the lead into the fourth period, 38-36.

It was all Pickering in the final frame as the Red Devils outscored the Rebels, 22-15, over the last eight minutes of regulation to claim the victory.

Kelvin Atkins led the Red Devils with 17 points, while Jarrell Taylor and Clint Robinson were also in double figures with 11 and 10 points, respectively. The Red Devils, who were 26-of-46 from the free throw line in the contest, also got nine points from Patrick Gregory.

Jacob Vines and Aaron Price were in double figures for the Rebels, netting 15 and 12 points, respectively.

In other action from Monday, the Anacoco Indians and Lady Indians each went 1-1 at the Doyle Tournament, both beating Doyle by nine points, but losing to Albany by 10 points.

Additionally, the Rosepine Eagles improved to 2-0 with a 76-63 win over the Avoyelles Mustangs at the Marksville Tournament.
