Sheriff Sam Craft of the Vernon Parish Sheriff’s Office would like to announce that the Vernon Parish Sheriff’s Office and the Vernon Parish Narcotics Task Force will be hosting a prescription drug “take back” event.

According to a release issued by the sheriff's office, the VPSO will be accepting old or unwanted prescription medications to include bottled injectables. Craft says anyone wishing to dispose of medication should remove or black-out any personal identifying information on the prescription bottles.

No needles of any kind will be accepted, he emphasized.

The sheriff's office will accept these items on May 12-14 between 2 p.m. and 5 p.m. at the sheriff’s office, according to Craft's release.

Craft says he is hosting this event in an effort to prevent the abuse or misuse of prescription medications.

Anyone with questions concerning the event can contact Mike Gore at (337) 238-4764.
