BATON ROUGE — Pickering junior Briauna Voda and sophomore Dontay Hargrove had standout performances for the Lady Red Devils and Red Devils on Friday at the annual Class 2A State Track and Field Championships, which were held at Bernie Moore Stadium on the campus of Louisiana State University.

BATON ROUGE — Pickering junior Briauna Voda and sophomore Dontay Hargrove had standout performances for the Lady Red Devils and Red Devils on Friday at the annual Class 2A State Track and Field Championships, which were held at Bernie Moore Stadium on the campus of Louisiana State University.

Voda brought home second place in the girls’ high jump as she cleared 5-2. She was also one of the members of Pickering’s mile-relay team, which placed sixth with a time of 4:19.36.

Joining Voda on the team were Terrinisha Mosley, DeNaba Mbouissou and Madison Norris.

The Lady Red Devils came away from the meet with nine points, which was good enough for 17th place in the team standings. Episcopal of Baton Rouge won the event with 81 points, with St. Thomas Aquinas and Westminster claiming second and third.

Hargrove scored all 12 of Pickering’s points in the boys’ meet, taking third in both the discus and the shot put. He hurled the discus 144 feet and three inches, while heaving the shot put 47 feet and 9.75 inches.

Rosepine’s Brian Buono and Chris Thompkins each scored a point for Rosepine, taking sixth place in the 800-meter run and 300-meter hurdles, respectively. Buono had a time of 2:07.20, while Thompkins recorded a mark of 41.61 seconds in his event.

Pickering tied for 18th place in the team standings with 12, while Rosepine was tied for 35th with two points.

Episcopal of Baton Rouge ran away with the meet title with 113 points, while Sophie B. Wright was the runner-up with 48 points. St. Thomas Aquinas placed third.
