Free informational handouts can be obtained from the Vernon Parish Sheriff's Office Criminal Division upon request.

Most SIDS deaths happen when babies are between 1-4 months of age. SIDS is the leading cause of death in babies 1 month to 1 year of age, according to VPSO.

Each year, about 4,000 infants die unexpectedly during sleep time, from SIDS, accidental suffocation or unknown causes, according to VPSO.
