Body cameras donated to the Leesville Police Department by a Leesville resident have been put to use in collecting evidence and recording movements of police officers, according to a release from the City of Leesville.

The cameras, donated by Richard Sarver, were provided to officers who did not have cameras already inside their vehicles.

According to the city, Leesville Police Chief Greg Hill plans to purchase more cameras at the end of September.

"We are waiting on the improvements that are going to be made to the night vision," Hill said in the release. "Once technology is improved, the city will buy six more."

Sarver decided to donate the cameras after seeing a news report about other towns providing body cameras to their police departments, the release states.
