Haygood first woman to head engineers group
Col. Cindy Haygood, a Leesville native, took command of the Louisiana Army National Guard’s 225th Engineer Brigade on Saturday. She is the first female to command the engineer brigade.
Col. Rodney Painting, a resident of Amite, has commanded the engineers since 2012,.
Haygood holds a Bachelor of Arts in Economics from LSU and received her commission through the LANG’s Officer Candidate School in 1994, where she was the distinguished honor graduate. She is a veteran of Operation Iraqi Freedom and served in support of Hurricanes Katrina and Rita.
Her previous assignment was as the commander of the 139th Regional Support Group. In her civilian career, she is a small business area manager for Capital One Bank, where she has been employed for the last 16 years.
The 225th is headquartered at Camp Beauregard in Pineville and is comprised of three engineer battalions: the 527th Engineer Battalion headquartered in Ruston, the 205th Engineer Battalion headquartered in Bogalusa and the 528th Engineer Battalion headquartered in Monroe.
The 225th has served in numerous campaigns and conflicts which include the War of 1812, the Civil War, World War I and II, Operations Desert Shield and Desert Storm, Operation Iraqi Freedom. The 225th has provided disaster relief from floods, tornadoes, hurricanes and assistance for community projects across the state.
