SIMPSON — Just less than two weeks ago, the fifth-ranked Ebarb Rebels pulled off a mammoth upset of the second-ranked Simpson Broncos.

On Tuesday night, it was all forgotten.

Five Simpson players scored in double figures, including a career-high 31 points from Tanner Yates as the Broncos lambasted the Rebels in District 3-C action, 86-39.

With the victory, the Broncos improved to 26-5 overall, 4-1 in league play heading into its District 3-C finalé on Friday at home against the Evans Eagles.

Ebarb dropped to 20-10 on the season, 4-1 in the league as it closes out district play against Pleasant Hill.

The Broncos wasted little time getting on the board as Yates scored Simpson’s first nine points. Ebarb’s Brendan Ezernack answered with six of his own, cutting the Simpson lead to 9-6.

But Ezernack’s output would soon fizzle, but Yates continued to pour it on, finishing with 16 points in the first quarter as Simpson opened up a huge lead after eight minutes of action, 24-9.

Ebarb stalled considerably in the second period, while all five Simpson starters reached the scoring column during the same span. The Broncos used a 16-4 surge in the frame to open up a 40-13 cushion at the break.

Simpson continued to pile it on as Ebarb simply had no answer for the Broncos.

The Broncos used a 20-11 run in the third quarter, allowing the home team to take a 60-24 advantage into the final eight minutes of regulation.

Simpson had its greatest output of the night during the fourth period, scoring 26 points as it claimed an easy win.

Yates led all scorers with 31 points, while Simpson’s other four starters reached double figures as well.

Cameron Walker pitched in 13 points, while Austin Williams and Cameron Bettez added 12 points each. Landon Roberts finished with 10 points.

The Rebels managed to have only four players score in the contest, sparked by Robert Meshell, who finished with 19 points.
